General Information

Troop 65 was charted in 1918 and has the distinction of being the oldest continuously chartered troop in the Longhorn Council, the 8th oldest Troop in the state of Texas. The Troop is sponsored and chartered by the First United Methodist Church of Denton, with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Our district is the Frontier Trails (#23).

Troop 65 is a boy led Troop with the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) as its head. An Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL) as well as other members of the Leadership Corp. provides assistance to the SPL in conducting Troop meetings and carrying out Troop activities.

Meetings

Troop meetings are held each Monday night at the Scout Hut from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Scout Hut is the last of four huts built in the 1940s for the Scout Troops in Denton, and is located on land donated to the city by the Evers’ family for use by the Scouts. The Scout Hut is located on the South West corner of Locust St. and Windsor Dr. (across from Evers Park). Map

The SPL is responsible for setting the agenda for each meeting. The boys will typically set time aside for rank advancement, skill presentation and campout preparation.

Campouts

Campouts are generally conducted on a monthly basis throughout the year with the exception of August when the annual planning session is conducted. On most campouts, Scouts will leave the Scout Hut on Friday evening and return there on Sunday afternoon, usually by 1:00 p.m.

Advancement

The boys should come to meetings prepared to work on rank advancement and/or merit badges. Scout Master Conferences and Board of reviews will be held as needed. We recognize the boys who complete rank advancement at our meetings and present awards at Court of Honors. Court of Honors will be held quarterly.
